Compact mobile batching plant for Spurs’ new stadium

Building materials supplier Tarmac, part of the CRH group these days, has bought a Rapid Transbatch compact mobile batching plant for Spurs’ new stadium.

Northern Ireland-based Rapid International recently supplied the Transbatch batching plant to Tarmac for on-site production of readymix concrete for the construction of Tottenham Hotspurs’ new 61,000-seat football stadium. The stadium, scheduled for completion ahead of the 2018/19 season, is part of the larger Northumberland development project, which includes new homes, a supermarket, a primary school, a public square, a university technical college and new administration buildings for the football club. Mace is managing the project and has brought in Tarmac as concrete subcontractor for the scheme.
Tarmac selected the Rapid Transbatch for its high output and its mobility. The project calls for concrete outputs of 80m3 per hour; the Transbatch can manage up to 100m3 per hour.
Tarmac readymix business manager Steve Hyde said: “The football club was very interested in the ultra-mobile concept as the concrete mini batching plant has to move to a different location mid project. They needed, however, to meet the 80m3 per hour requirements of their contractors.”

City of Bayswater against proposed mobile concrete batching plant in Bassendean

City of Bayswater council does not support a proposed Bassendean concrete mobile batching plant set to straddle the boundaries of the localities.
The application, before the Town of Bassendean, was referred to the City for comment as a 49sq m strip lies on Bayswater land.
The proposed development is about 1km away from a similar proposed batching plant on Collier Road, an application the City of Bayswater has fought against for about five years.
After State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) mediation, which came about after the Town failed to review the application within the required timeframe, the applicant submitted an amended waste and dust management plan to address concerns raised by SAT.

At a meeting on Tuesday night, Bayswater council moved without debate its opposition to the containerized concrete batching plant.
Reasons included the Clune Street proposal not providing enough supporting information that demonstrated dust emissions would not unduly affect the area.
The plans did not provide 20.1m of land dedication required for the Wicks Street road reserve extension and affected the outline development plan adopted at the former CSBP site.
According to City officers, the design of crossovers to Clune Street would not comply and the development was “not consistent with the orderly and proper planning of the area”.
Town of Bassendean received 11 objections to the proposed development and concerns included health impacts, dust emissions, noise and increased traffic volume.
The Department of Environmental Regulation (DER) advised applicants Rowe Group they would need a works approval before it could assess environmental suitability.
City officers suggested Bassendean include extra conditions including installing a wheel wash for bulk cement truck  regularly cleaning the street of dust and sand deposited, and undertaking routine dust monitoring.

The Finishing Work of Haomei Concrete Batching Plant
The Finishing Work of Haomei Concrete Batching Plant

Professional concrete batching plant manufacturer has summarized five steps for after using the concrete batching plant.
1. After work, shut down the concrete batching plant as requirement according to the right order.
2. Check the wear condition of mixing blades and scaleboard after working; check whether the components need to be updated or the contact surfaces need to be lubricated; check whether the connection bolts are loose.
3. Check the surface of belt conveyor whether it has flake or fracture phenomenon and timely replace.
4. If the mobile batching plant does not work for a long period time and the hopper and storage bin can not save materials, clean inside of it before restarting it. Cement silo should take dampproof work to avoid hardening and freezing of cement.
5. After work, make sure the closing places of concrete batching plant are closed.
We hope that operators should not ignore the above five steps of concrete batching plant. Though these are the simple maintenance, you should take it seriously and earnest which can ensure the safety of concrete batching plant and prolong the service life of concrete batching plant.

WA Limestone concrete plant fight continues in Bayswater

THE fight against the proposed concrete batching plant at 277-279 Collier Road continues for the City of Bayswater and its residents.
Bayswater councillors rejected WA Limestone’s original application in 2011 after strong opposition from residents with concerns about noise, heavy vehicle traffic, proximity to homes and health risks from pollution.
Since then the matter has gone back and forth between the council and the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT), with amended plans submitted to the council for its August meeting.
The council unanimously voted to defer consideration of the proposed amendments until concerns – including environmental matters raised by the City’s environmental consultant and the buffer around the plant – had been addressed.
Jamie Petrovic, who worked in the concrete industry for 14 years, is one of the residents opposed to the mobile batching plant.
“Because the SAT is involved, anything could happen,” he said.
“If the SAT let this go through it’s going to be an environmental disaster. The buffer zone is meant to be a 300m radius, but there are companies right next door.”
Resident and former councillor Sally Palmer said it was an absolute dilemma to think that parcel of land could be used for dust and dirt.
“There’s no such thing as a clean concrete batching plant,” she said.
“They should never have it so close to the buffer zone of that location, it is absolutely criminal.
“The buffer zone should be a minimum of 500m and even if it was a minimum of 300m, it’s still not enough.”
According to the council agenda, if rejected it could cost the City and its residents up to $140,000 to legally defend council’s decision.
Councillor Terry Kenyon said despite the city being threatened with costs by the SAT, the council was “110 per cent” behind the residents’ fight against this plant.
On September 2, Cr Chris Cornish posted on Facebook that he had spent three hours at an SAT mediation meeting on the proposed concrete asphalt mixing plant.
“Thoroughly boring, but at least I was able to put forward the concerns of the residents who live around the site,” he said.
“This will either come back to council for reconsideration or progress to a SAT hearing where SAT will have the ultimate say – not the community and not the council.”

Pasco agrees to pay A+ concrete plant to move

Pasco County will pay $700,000 to get a concrete mixing plant to move from a site where it should not have been allowed in the first place.
Last year Senior Assistant County Attorney Kristi Sims filed an injunction to close A+ Concrete for zoning and code violations. County commissioners unanimously rejected A+ Concrete’s application for “vested rights” even though they acknowledge county staff approved a building permit to add a mixing tower at the plant, which is just off State Road 54 in Odessa.

County employees said they did not check the zoning on the property because a concrete plant had operated there — illegally, as it turned out — for years. The county’s zoning ordinance only allows concrete mixing in heavy industrial areas. A+ is on land zoned for light industrial.
Meanwhile, residents of the adjacent Ashley Lakes community have complained for years about noise and dust coming from the site.
David Smolker, attorney for the plant, sued the county and the case went to mediation.
County commissioners this week unanimously approved the settlement that pays A+ Concrete $500,000 to cease all concrete mixing and disassemble its equipment. All of the equipment must be removed from the site within 90 days of the payment.
mobile batching plant operator Rob Brue said he invested more than $1.5 million in equipment just to add the wet-mix concrete tower. Smolker said the money wouldn’t be enough to pay for him to move elsewhere.
“At this point, he’s just going to have to close, and they’re going to pick up the pieces and start over,” Smolker said. “It was a difficult situation for everybody. They were stymied in their efforts to try to resolve the issues that the homeowners were complaining about. It was sort or a catch-22.”
The settlement also calls for the county to pay $200,000 to the owners of the business park for the loss of business from a major tenant. Brue’s lease would have run until 2020.
Sims said the settlement allows the county to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial.
Ashley Lakes resident Janet Felts said she is satisfied with the end result. “I wish it hadn’t taken so long, but this is the best possible outcome,” she said.
